So, I did it again - I installed Gentoo. But not on my regular computer but into a virtual machine running under VMware Server 1.03. How much fun it is to waste cpu power to compile "world". *sigh*
As I emerged vdr I came across the "could not find crtstarts.o and crtends.0" - error. I quickly realized that it has something to do with libtool, gcc, etc. so eventually I emerged the whole "world". Tried to emerge vdr again and worked like a charm.
